Bio

First name should be Sylvania...recorded name as spelled on monument. Mrs. Vania Buckner Mrs. Vania Buckner, widow of the late Rev. J.C. Buckner, died at her home on Route Two, Oneonta, Thursday, Jan. 24th. Mrs. Buckner had been sick for a long time and for several months her condition had been serious. The deceased was about 75 years of age, and for a long time had been a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, William T. Buckner of Oneonta and Oliver F. Buckner of Route 2, Oneonta; one daughter, Miss Fannie Buckner with whom she made her home on Route 2, Oneonta; two brothers, I.G. Tidwell of Wynville and Uriah Tidwell of Florida; one sister, Mrs. Scott Murray of Jasper. She was the mother of Ex-Sheriff, R.W. Buckner who was slain while in the discharge of his duty as a Federal officer a few years ago. The funeral service were held at the Oneonta Baptist Church and were conducted by Rev. L.T. Fendley, assisted by Rev. W.H. Bellew and Rev. J.L. Moye. The remains were laid to rest in Old Liberty Cemetery. The Southern Democrat, January 24, 1929]
