Bio

Ernest Watson Varnell, 52, rural mail carrier, died at his home Wednesday, March 17, at 12:01 p.m. Mr. Varnell had just returned from his mail route and gone into the house when he suffered a heart attack and died immediately. Mr. Varnell was born in Lauderdale County and was the son of the late Furman Franklin and Ida Estes Varnell. Funeral services will be conducted today at 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member. Rev. L. W. Hart will officiate with interment following in the City Cemetery, McConnell-Service directing. Survivors include his wife, Cora M. Varnell; two sons, Clifford O. Varnell and Henry Franklin Varnell; one daughter, Mrs. Ernestine Arrington, Birmingham; three brothers, Arnie Varnell and Arthur Varnell of Rogersville, and Ed Varnell of Decatur; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Wilbanks of Florence, Mrs. Viola Tuten, Athens, and Mrs. Daisy McCaffety, Birmingham.
