Redfield - Ruth I. Hoffman, 86, of Redfield, S.D. died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Her funeral will be Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. After a time for fellowship and lunch the burial will be in the Doland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Ruth was born Feb. 4, 1919, in Doland to Henry and Gertrude (Hanna) Board. She grew up in the Doland area and graduated from Doland High School in 1937. Ruth married Donovan Hoffman July 4, 1941, in Redfield. They lived in Farmer, S.D., before moving to Doland in 1949, where they farmed. They also farmed near Carpenter and lived in the Stratford area while Donovan worked for the elevator. In 1973, they moved to Redfield. Donovan died in 1974 and Ruth continued living in Redfield and worked at Beverly Healthcare Center, as a cook, for over 20 years. Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church, UMW and friendship club. She enjoyed cross-stitching, quilting, reading, puzzles and having coffee with her friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth made heirloom Christmas stockings for all her family. Ruth is survived by her four children: Sharon (Larry) Klapperich of Groton, S.D.; Craig Hoffman of Wessington Springs, S.D.; Verle (Lila) Hoffman of Wessington Springs, S.D.; and Julie (Tim) Blom of Waseca, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Ethyl Green of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Ruby Vetos of Kemmerer, Wyo., and Carol (Richard) Grann of Huron, S.D.; three brothers-in-law: Fred Lawrence of Huron, S.D.; Delbert Fey of Groton, S.D., and John Hoffman of Casper, Wyo., and one sister-in-law, Isla Hoffman of New Ulm, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donovan, two brothers and three sisters. Casketbearers will be Ruth's grandchildren: Barry, Brian, Rick and Cory Klapperich, Dawn Butterfield, Shawn Ochsner, Dayna Hohn, Tara Hoffman, Megan and Ary Ann Blom.
