From "Two Alice Men Meet Death in Highway Crash: Archie Carter and J. W. Franklin, USN Lose Lives on Alice Airport Highway: Car Goes Out of Control, Carter Funeral Thursday Afternoon," published in The Alice Echo, 6 Sep 1945, p. 1 Headlines "Archie Carter, an employee of B.S. & B. Tank Co. of Alice, died instantly. He is of a large and closely knit family in this city. His death was a grave shock to his sisters who adored him and the entire family. Archer Carter was born in Kaufman, Texas, reared in Haskell and had lived in Alice since 1937 when his family moved here. He was beloved by all who knew him, kindhearted, genteel and in love with life and all his family. He had a host of friends in every circle that he moved in because of his clean sincerity and open honesty. He is survived by his widow and four children, Patsy, Faye Marie, Dwayne, and Gayle, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Carter, three brothers, Coleman of Alice and Kin of the USA who came here for the funeral and Clyde now in the South Pacific with the USN, two sisters, Verta and Allie Faye. Interment was in Fraternal Cemetery.
