Dolores Anna Caka, 88, of Shiner, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 20, 2025. She was born on August 19, 1937, in Witting, Texas, to Charles and Ellanora Cook Holub. Though born in Witting, Dolores was raised on the family farm in Moravia, where she attended school and learned the value of hard work at an early age. She helped tend chickens, work cattle, bottle-feed calves, pick cotton, and complete countless outdoor chores necessary to keep the farm running. While in school, Dolores loved playing baseball with the boys' team. She could outrun all the boys and bat better than most. In her downtime, she enjoyed fishing—a pastime she loved throughout her life. Dolores met Victor Bernard Caka at a dance. When he first asked her to dance, she "gave him a basket," but Victor had a few moves of his own and later "cut in" while she was dancing with another partner—a moment that sparked nearly 66 years of marriage. The couple was married on October 11, 1958, in Moravia. Dolores continued working and caring for cattle, buying bulls, raising chickens, collecting eggs, and selling them at Weingarten's in Hallettsville. She enjoyed attending FFA stock shows in support of her family and the youth of the community. She enjoyed watching the judging and took great pride when one from her herd received Grand Champion recognition at a Yoakum stock show. When Dolores wanted something done, it usually meant right now. If calves needed to be sold, everyone dropped what they were doing to get them to market. She loved gathering her family together and cherished the memories they made enjoying one another's company. Dolores was firm about punctuality and insisted the family be at church 30 minutes early every Sunday. A devoted member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, she led her family in their faith and instilled a deep reverence for Scripture. Dolores was artistic and enjoyed painting chickens, cattle, cats, and many other animals. She loved listening to polka music and Johnny Cash. She found tremendous joy in gardening—always barefoot, wearing shoes only when necessary. Above all, Dolores was loving, caring, generous, and devoted to her family. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Marie Jahn (Larry) and Noreen Ann Fojt (Randy); her sons, Kenneth James Caka (Robbie) and Leonard Bernard Caka (Mechelle); her sister, Alice Davis (Jerry); her sister-in-law, Emily Holub; grandchildren, Brian Jahn, Travis Jahn (Lindsay), Erin Pohler (Craig), Jaime Mertz (Devin), Ryan Fojt, Ariel Johnson (Jake), and Blaine Caka; and great-grandchildren, Braxton, Levi, Cavan, Emma, Harper, Parker, Ryder, Charlotte, and Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Bernard Caka; her parents; her brothers, Eugene Holub and Charles Holub; and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Holub. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2025, at Shiner Funeral Home, with prayers of the Holy Rosary following at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2025, at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, with Fr. Jacob Mendoza as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Blaine Caka, Ryan Fojt, Craig Pohler, Devin Mertz, Travis Jahn, and Brian Jahn. Memorials may be made to SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church or to the charity of one's choice.
