DR. THOMAS L. BARNES - Death at Ukiah Friday of a Prominent Ex-Petaluman. Dr. Thomas Langley Barnes died at his home at Ukiah about 11 o'clock a.m., Friday, aged nearly ninety years. Deceased was a native of North Carolina, and in his young days participated in the stirring scenes incident to the development of the then new country including the Black Hawk war. He was a physician of recognized ability and an honorable citizen. He had resided in Ukiah for many years and had the respect and esteem of everybody. He was the oldest living member of St. John's M.E. church of Ukiah, and led a consistent Christian life. Although he lived far beyond man's allotted time, his death causes sincere regret. He was the only surviving brother of Mrs. M.E. White (formerly Thompson) of this city and uncle of Mrs. Beales and Mrs. David Dickson. For years he resided in Petaluma, where he was esteemed by all and was a charter member of the local Masonic lodge and of me local M.E. church. He was known to many of the older residents as an honorable, upright citizen. Thomas L. Carothers of Ukiah is a namesake of the deceased and the late Judge Swinnerton of Stockton, who died on Wednesday, was a son-in-law of Dr. Barnes. The funeral will be held Sunday at 1:30 at Ukiah. Deceased was a brother of the late Colonel Barnes of this city. --from the Petaluma Daily Morning Courier (Petaluma, CA) 16 Nov 1901, courtesy of jiggerbarnes (50456634) on 4-7-21.
