Funeral Services of Mrs. Carothers Funeral services over the remains of the late Mrs. Margaret Carothers were held at the family residence on Third Street this afternoon at 2 oclock, in the presence of the relatives and many friends of the deceased pioneer woman, Rev. W. H. Darden and Rev. A. J. performed the funeral services and beautiful eulogy was said to the deceased's well-spent life and career. A quartet rendered several selections and those present were accorded a last look upon the features of the dead. This evening Thomas L. Carothers took the remains to Ukiah on the 5:30 train and they will be laid to rest on Friday at his plot in the Ukiah cemetery. The local relatives accompanied the remains to Ukiah, to be present at the last. Thomas L. Carothers will keep his aged father with him in Ukiah, where he will spend his declining years. Miss Margaret Carothers and John Carothers will for the present reside here. Petaluma Daily Morning Courier (Petaluma, California), 8 Sept 1898 Death of Mrs. Margaret Carothers Mrs. Margaret Carothers, wife of Jamea H. Carothers, Sr., and mother of Thos. L. and James H. Carothers of this place, died at her home in Petaluma last Wednesday afternoon, age 78 years, 9 months and 1 days. Mrs. Carothers was the mother of eight children, seven of whom survive her, Thos. L. being the oldest and James H (the youngest). Mrs. Carothers was born in North Carolina where she lived for 34 years. She crossed the plains with her husband in 1853 and settled in Sonoma County, residing in Petaluma most of the time Mrs. Carothers wan universally beloved and leaves a host, of friends and relatives to mourn her loss. A funeral ceremony took place in Petaluma Thursday and was largely attended. The remains were brought to this city last evening where a funeral ceremony will be held at the residence of Dr. T.
