Edward J. Soukup, 66, of Houston, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. Rosary will be recited by Father Bradford Hernandez at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Bradford Hernandez as celebrant. Edward was born in West, Texas, to the late Joseph E. and Stacie W. (Sinkule) Soukup and was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He graduated from West High School and attended North Texas State University (now University of North Texas). He served in the United States Army Reserves. On Jan. 11, 1964, he was united in marriage to Doris Schulze by Monsignor Charles Weisnerowski at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Edward was a food broker with Bill Lyons Food Supply Company in Houston. He was a member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Cypress and had been involved with the Inwood Dad's Club. He enjoyed home improvements, gardening and sports, especially the Houston teams. He was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Soukup; and a sister, Freida Burton. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Soukup; sons, Dr. Gregory J. Soukup Sr. and wife, Megan, Mark J. Soukup, and Edward J. Soukup, II and wife, Maria; grandchildren, Gregory Jr., Annette, Andrea and Corrynn Soukup; sisters, Mary Sybert and husband, Bob, and Monica May and husband, John; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Annette and Tom Cleary; and numerous nieces and nephews.
