Bio

Fort Bend Herald, Sunday, November 9, 2025: Nelson Joe Nawara of Sacramento, CA passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 17, 2025. He was 92 years old. Nelson was born October 4, 1933 in Booth, Texas to his loving parents, Frank and Tracy Nawara. At 17, Nelson enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Perkins (DD-877) from 1951-1954. The U.S.S. Perkins was deployed to the Korean War theater, conducting shore bombardment missions and gunfire support off the Korean peninsula. Upon discharge, Nelson returned to Rosenberg to begin his life. In 1957, Nelson met and married the love of his life, Marceil. They were blessed with three children and 65 loving years of marriage. They enjoyed their lives in Rosenberg, raising their kids, going on family vacations or weekend fishing trips, spending time with extended family and friends, and attending church. After their joint retirement from Lamar Consolidated Independent School District in 1994, they moved from Rosenberg to Shirley, AR where they spent 24 wonderful years in the beauty of the Ozark mountains, enjoying their home, church and friends. Nelson found purpose and beauty in the blessing of each day. He loved helping others, he loved Jesus and he loved his family. Nelson is preceded in death by wife, Marceil Nawara; son, David Nawara; parents, Frank and Tracy Nawara; brother, Leonard Nawara; and sister, Anne White. Nelson is survived by daughter, Terry Nawara (Kelle), Glen Nawara (Stacey); grandchildren, Austin Nawara Vervalin, Robin Nawara, Christopher Nawara, Katie Nawara, Emily Flores (Steven); great-granddaughter, Wren Flores; daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Nawara; brother-in-law, Charles Williamson (Doris); as well as nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend special thanks to caregiver, Marina Serrano (Daniel), The Olson Family, Sue Carter and the community of Stadium Club Estates, all who provided Nelson with friendship, love, and support.
