When Alice "Allie" Chaney was born in January 1873 in Texas, her father, Thomas, was 35 and her mother, Mary, was 28. She had one child with Moses Clabern Bateman in 1890. She then married John Walter Phillips and they had 10 children together between 1894 and 1915. She died on March 9, 1920, in Edgewood, Texas, at the age of 47.
