When Mary M. "Mollie" McClellan was born on December 19, 1844, in Talladega, Alabama, her father, Robert, was 24 and her mother, Elizabeth Knox McClellan, was 21. Mollie married Thomas Washington Chaney on 8 Feb 1867 in Talledega, Alabama. She died on October 14, 1924, in Canton, Texas, at the age of 79. Mary's death certificate # 59 filed Oct. 25, 1924, states that she was the daughter of Robert McClellen, name of mother not listed. She died on Oct.,14, 1924 and was buried on Oct. 15th. S. F. Hillard of Canton was the undertaker. Mary died of bronchial pneumonia. Her physician was Willard C. Hearin of Canton, Texas. Civil War Widow's Pension File # 20680, Van Zandt County, Texas, May 1, 1911: Chaney, M.M., Mrs.--Canton, age 66, born Talladega County, Alabama. Married Thomas Washington Chaney, Feb. 9, 1867 in same county. He enlisted Aug. 13, 1861 in Co. A., 8th Miss. Cav. Paroled at Hillsboro, N.C. May 3, 1865. Witnesses, W.S. Pearson of same Regt. He was born Oct. 23, 1837, died Mar 10, 1903. Canton Cemetery. Talledega County Alabama census records for 1850 lists Mary M., female b. Alabama age 5 in house hold of Robert and Elizabeth McClellan. with sisters Martha age 3 and Sarah age 2. Van Zandt County Texas Census Records 1910: Chaney, Mary age 64 is enumerated with Robert L. Chaney, listed as mother.
