Sam Thomas Horvath, 89, of Seven Points, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, July 18, 2025. Sam was born on March 22, 1936 in Corsicana, TX to Bill Horvath and Helen Nagy Horvath of Corsicana, TX. Sam was the devoted husband of Peggy Horvath, with whom he shared 65 beautiful years of marriage, and a proud father to Sammy Horvath (wife Jackie) of Liberty City, TX, and Johnny Horvath of Dallas, TX. He was a cherished grandfather to Jesse Horvath of Liberty City, TX; Carly Stephens (husband Joe) of Lake Bluff, IL, Stacey Wood (Husband Kit) of Alpine, TX; and the late Tracey Turk. He was blessed to know and love his six great-grandchildren: William and Samuel Stephens, Rylie Turk, and Leddy, Ollie, and Brucks Wood. He graduated from Emhouse High School in 1954 where he won Senior Class favorite from which he remained a proud graduate - frequently attending class reunions and driving his grandkids by his old high school even after it was torn down. His nickname was 'Sonny Boy'. Sam and Peggy met on Beaton St in Corsicana when they were young, and quickly knew they were meant to be. Shortly after meeting, Sam proposed and won her over! They raised Sammy and Johnny in East Texas and went on to have grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom they taught their love for traveling and being on the water. He spent over 35 years working for AT&T, served in the Air Force Reserves as a fireman, and was an avid boater and fisherman. He loved being on the water—whether at the beach or on the lake—fishing on his cherished trot lines, restoring boats, tractors, and anything with an engine even though Peggy always said he had too many toys. His sense of humor and storytelling will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Sam deeply valued his large, Hungarian-rooted family and leaves behind a legacy of love through numerous devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. One of his most treasured possessions was his "Book of Days," where he faithfully recorded every birthday of those he knew and loved deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 7 siblings Emory, Ernest, Johnny, Irene, Sarah, Katherine, and Ida, and granddaughter Tracey Turk. He has one remaining sibling, half-brother Jack Horvath. Sam never met a stranger and would gladly give you the shirt off his back. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He taught his family resilience, unconditional love, and the importance of being there in times of need, usually singing a song while doing so. Sam's greatest devotion was to his wife, Peggy, who has lovingly cared for him full-time over the past two years. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and strength. (Griffith-Roughton FH)
