Bio

Irene Vera Ross went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2017, at the age of 86. She was a descendent of the Nagy and Horvath families who immigrated through Ellis Island in the early 1900’s. Irene grew up with her large family on their farms in Navarro County. Her Hungarian ancestors are featured on the cover of “The Hungarian Texans” written by James Patrick McGuire with the UT Institute of Texan Cultures. Irene graduated with honors from Corsicana High School and shortly thereafter married World War II veteran and rancher, Carl (Ed) Perkins from Corbet, Texas. They operated a successful cattle ranch near Marshall, Texas, for many years where they raised their three children, Sally, Patsy, and Michael. She later remarried and moved to Longview, Texas, where she was an active member of Longview Church of Christ. She was an avid reader and loved to garden, cook, sew, fish, babysit her grandchildren, and take care of the farm. She is preceded in death by her beloved second husband, Melvin Ross. After his death, Irene returned to Corsicana to be near her brothers and sister. In Corsicana, she enjoyed participating in the Senior Activity Center, the Corsicana YMCA, the Red Hat Society, and Westhill Church of Christ. Irene was predeceased by her daughter Sally Skinner, her brother Emery Horvath, and her sisters Sarah Morris, Catherine Horvath, and Ida Horvath. (Rader Funeral Home of Longview Internet)
