Bio

Zack was the son of Benjamin Burgess and Mary Melissa McClellan Chaney. He married Sarah Elizabeth "Sacky" Ballard 22 Dec 1874 in Van Zandt County, Texas. The Canton Herald, Thursday, August 10, 1939 S.F. CHANEY (Should be Z.T.) S.F. Chaney died at the age of 91 years on Monday, July 31 at the home of his nephew in the Mt. Gibson Community. He had been a resident of this county for some 65 years and he and his family had many friends throughout the county. Funeral services were held at the cemetery in Canton by Rev. J.I. Heddin on the following day. Burial was under the direction of Eubank Bros. He is survived by two sons, A.A. Chaney and Albert Chaney and a daughter, Mrs. J.W. Phillips (should be Phelps), several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers at the service were his nephews, Clyde, Claude, Warren & Debs Chaney, Mal Parks, and a grandson Alton Chaney. Eubanks Funeral Home Records in Canton, Texas lists his cause of death as senility. Zack's funeral was resided over by Brother Chaney of Ben Wheeler and was held at Canton Cemetery. Records list his wife as Sara and next of kin as Arthur Art Chaney. Father Berges Chaney birthplace unknown and mother's maiden name unknown. (Note: His daughter, Minnie Drucilla Chaney Phelps is buried at Cryer Creek Cemetery, Navarro County, Texas) (His son, Albert B.
