Mae E. Kinney, 97, of Grand Island, formerly of Burwell passes away on April 8, 2025, at The Cedars Broadwell in Grand Island, Nebraska. Mae Edna was born December 14, 1927, in Garfield County, Nebraska to Skyler and Edna Mae (Harron) Schamp. She grew up in Garfield and Wheeler counties; receiving her early education in Wheeler County and graduated from Ericson High School. On August 5, 1947, Mae was united in marriage to Anson C. Kinney, Jr. at Boulder, Colorado. The couple resided in Burwell and were blessed with four children. Mae was a homemaker and cared for their children. She also did odd jobs, including laundry for the cowboys during the Burwell Rodeo. She also worked at the Burwell Legion Club and in June of 1981, began working at Community Memorial Health Center until retirement in July of 2000. Mae was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary for 25 years. She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, crocheting and ceramic painting. Survivors include a son Anson F. "Butch" Kinney of Grand Island; a daughter, Frances Fines of Grand Island; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anson; two daughters, Barbara Crick and Karen Osentowski; and all her siblings. Mrs. Kinney's wishes were to be cremated. A Private Graveside Service will be held at a later date at the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell, Nebraska.
