Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent September 1984 Fred S. Schamp, 62, of ....died unexpectedly at Burwell while visiting relatives. Memorial services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery... Mr. Schamp was born April 25, 1922, in Greeley County, the son of Schuyler and Mae Schamp. He grew up in Greeley County and was a graduate of Ericson High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he lived in Grand Island. He married Mae Goodner on April 9, 1950. He had worked as a truck driver for Island Supply for 23 years, retiring in February due to failing health. Mrs. Schamp died in March 1983. He was a member of the Platt-Deutsche Society. Survivors include three daughters, Toni Linde Young of Clearwater, Fla., Elsie Jo Melgoza of North Platte and Charlotte Marjorie Perkins of Houston, Texas; three step-children, Leslie Virgil Goodner of South Lake Tahoe, Nev., Mary Ann Andres of Henderson and Pamela Klippenstien of Pasadena, Texas, six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; four brothers, Alvin of Elyria, Joe and Harry, both of Ord and Lawrence of Red Cloud, and two sisters, Nellie Shybol of Shelton and Mae Kinney of Burwell.
