Bio

Helen often went by the name of May. Daughter of Eugene Battershall / Battershaw and Mary Williams. Helens parents divorced, and her mother Mary placed her many children in orphanages or with family members to raise. Mary took one child, Helen, and traveled to Lucerne County, Pennsylvania. Helen's sister Minerva was adopted by a childless couple and her name was changed to Lula Belle. Helen M Battershall in the Michigan, U.S., Births and Christenings Index, 1867-1911 Name Helen M Battershall Gender Female Birth Place Springport, Jackson, Michigan Birth Date 21 May 1877 Father's Name Eugene Battershall Mother's Name Mary FHL Film Number 941624 Married to Thomas F Clifford on July 11, 1900 in Hazelton, Pennsylvania with consent of Mother Mary Battershall. Birth date given on marriage certificate is May 21, 1882. License was not returned. Married to William Probert on October 20, 1903 in Butler Valley, Pennsylvania. According to Helen's next marriage license William died April 4, 1908 but he may have died in 1911 from tuberculosis . Still researching. No news articles to date. No marriage license found in Luzerne County PA Married to John Franklin "Frank" Dennis on February 6, 1918 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. John died in 1937, a victim of burns. Helen states both her parents were deceased by 1918 which was incorrect. Her death certificate has errors on it, and the place of burial is difficult to decipher. It appears that Helen as buried in a cemetery in Bowmanstown, Carbon County, Pennsylvania. There are several St Joseph cemeteries, and this may not be the correct cemetery. Why she wasn't buried with her husband of 20 years is not known. He is buried with his first wife. I don't believe that Helen was Catholic. I am still looking for the death of her mother Mary Williams. Helen had no children
