Maxine Lanell Schulz was born August 1, 1937 at home in Guy, Texas, to Vastine Kuno "Pete" and Irene Steffen Schulz. Mackie, as she was lovingly called, was the oldest of five children. She died Friday, November 1, 2024, in Richmond, TX. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; as well as her sister, Cleo "Koko" Butler; sister, Carmen Schulz; brother, Rex Schulz; brother-in-law, Vernon "Butch" Butler; brother-in-law, Raymond Schumann; and niece, Kimberly Denise Butler. She is survived by her sister, Corinne Schumann. She is also survived by nephews, Vernon "Butchie" Butler and wife, Debra, Terril "Lynn" Butler and wife, Connie, Douglas Butler and wife, Marti, Gaylon "Pancho" Butler and wife, Jackie, Darryl Schumann and wife, Jamie, Brooks Butler and wife, Rachael, Clinton Schumann and wife, Marla; nieces, Bobbi Jablonski and husband, TJ, and Kelli Horak and husband, Kevin; along with many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Mackie loved to spend all of her time with her sister, Carmen. Before Carmen's passing in 2020, the two were inseparable. They kept themselves busy working on quilt tops while listening to polka music on the El Campo radio station. Every fall, the two sisters would gather all the pecans from their yard and spend their days and nights cracking and peeling them. They were always so proud of their harvest and would offer a bag of pecans to any friends or family that would visit. Mackie also loved to pull around the yard her red wagon carrying her nephews and nieces when they were little. She continued the tradition when the next generation of great and great-great-nephews and nieces arrived. If you ever drove down Highway 36 in Guy, you were sure to see the two sisters and their brother, Rex, sitting on the front porch listening to the radio. They loved to wave at all the passing cars and always got so tickled when someone would drive by and honk and wave back. The family would like to thank the staff at Cambridge Health & Rehab for the care that Mackie received the past 6 years, with an extra thank you to Mr. Andrew Perez for showing the sisters so much kindness, compassion, and love. You made their time at Cambridge so special.
