St. Edward Advance (St. Edward, Nebr.), July 18, 1985, p. 1, col. 3 Mahoney Rites on Wednesday Vesta Mae Mahoney, daughter of John W. and Emma M. (Rishel) Jackson was born May 20, 1900 at Fullerton, Nebraska and died Sunday afternoon, July 14, 1985 at Cloverlodge Care Center at the age of 85 years. While growing up in Fullerton, she received her education in the Fullerton school system. She was united in marriage to James Mahoney on December 6, 1915 in St. Edward. The couple lived and farmed between St. Edward and Fullerton until the death of her husband on January 6, 1945. In 1946 she moved to town and lived in her own home until 1982 when she made her home at the Cloverlodge Care Center. Over the years she was a member of Royal Neighbors, the Goldenrod Club, St. Edward Catholic Church and St. Edward Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James, one son Eugene; one brother, Walter; a great granddaughter; and a son-in-law, George Werner. She is survived by six sons, Raymond and his wife, Norma, Arnold "Bud" and his wife, Iola, Leo and his wife, Joan, all of St. Edward, John and his wife, Marge, of Omaha, Robert and his wife, Margaret, of Tacoma, Washington, and Ronald and his wife, Jill, of Puyallup, Washington; two daughters, Mary Baustert and her husband, Harold, of St. Edward, and Fern Werner of Norfolk; a brother, Archie Jackson of Emmett, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Rose Mahoney of Omaha; 30 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 1985 from the St. Edward Catholic Church with the Rev. John Starostka officiating. Serving as organist was Sister Agatha Marie. Reader was Karen Penne and Canter was Marie Baustert. Isabel Mausbach served as Communion Minister and Altar Boys were Chad Micek and Brad Moran. Casket bearers were Jim, Rex, Don, Jerry, Clinton and Vincent Mahoney, George Werner and Dennis Baustert. Burial was in St. Edward Cemetery.
