Pinkney Parks was the son of James Henry Parks and Irina Newman of Steele, St. Clair County, Alabama. Before the depression, Pinkney Parks was a successful cotton farmer in Ellis County. He was very proud of his appearance and would plow his fields wearing starched kakis and and tie. He was a loving father to his children, but also a strict disciplinarian. He had of a total of eight children with all but one living to adulthood. All of his children grew to be outstanding individuals. He was married three times, twice a widower, marrying first Helen Josephine Bynum, the daughter of Tapley Asa Bynum and Francis Caroline Verser. She gave him three children, son Delmar who died in infancy, a daughter, Willie Lee and a son, Waldon (called Walter) Henry Parks. His second marriage was to Lula Lucy Bearden, daughter of the Reverand Pliny Franklin Bearden and Margaret Jane Patman. There were no children from this union. She died young. After Lula's death, he married Ava Atsy Bishop. She gave to him five children: Julius Hopson, Nellie Ruth, Ruby Mae, James Edward and Ramon Lee "Tommy" Parks. He died on June 2, 1944 and was buried the next day in the Oak Branch Cemetery.
