He was born in Cross Plains, Texas on Oct. 9, 1910, the third child of 14 born to Elmer and Alberta Fortune Mauldin. Menzel and his family moved from Texas to Oklahoma in a covered wagon in 1918. The family moved to Lancaster in 1945. Menzel married Florence and had one child who died at birth. He is survived by a sister Joy Garland and 2 brothers Asa and Cecil Mauldin.
