Velma Lillian Hajny Hastings resident Velma Lillian Hajny,102, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at College View Assisted Living, Hastings, NE. Rosary will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 23 with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m will be St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Scott Nemec officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 22; 5-7 p.m. with family present at the funeral home. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. at St. Martin's Loucky Cemetery, Deweese. Memorials may be given to Clay County Historical Society/For St. Martin's Loucky Church. Velma was born September 16, 1921, at Spring Ranch to Emil & Carrie (Herbeck) Skalka. She married Emil Hajny on May 17, 1949. He preceded her in death in February 2002. Velma was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the Mary Lanning Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a charter member of the South Central Czech Society. Velma was a homemaker and was employed at Mary Lanning Hospital for many years. Velma was a kind and loving mother and enjoyed her family, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil; and sister & brother-in-law, Evelyn & Leo Kimminau.
