The Fairfield Auxiliary (Fairfield, NE), Thursday, May 26, 1949; pg. 1 SKALKA - HAJNY A beautiful wedding was held Tuesday, May 17, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Loucky, when Miss Velma Skalka, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Skalka, became the bride of Emil Hajny, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hajny. They were married in a double ring ceremony, with the. Rev. Gregory Petrus officiating. The marriage vows were exchanged before the altar, which was beautifully decorated with tulips, bridal wreath, iris and snowballs. The church choir Bang the Nuptial High Mass. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a wedding gown of white slipper satin with lace inserts decorating the skirt and train. Her double-tiered fingertip veil, attached to a crown tiara of pearls, was edged with chantilly lace. She wore a strand of pearls and matching earrings, a gift of the groom. Her bouquet was of pink and white carnations, tied with white satin streamers. The bride was attended by her sister, Min Evelyn Skalka. Miss Skalka wore a light pink floor gown of net over satin, with a matching tiara and a corsage of white carnations. She wore white nylon mitts and carried a colonial of sweet peas and carnations with white streamers. Leighton Mazour, cousin of the groom, was best man. Edward Kalvoda and John Hajny, jr., cousins of the bride and groom, were ushers. The mothers of the bridal couple wore dark dresses with corsages of white carnations. Following the church ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Decorations were in pink and white. The table was centered by a 3-tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom, with bouquets of garden flowers. Mint cups with name cards completed the table decorations. Misses Marianne Mazour, Janet Hajny, and Geraldine Mazour assisted with serving. The couple left for a wedding trip to Colorado and other points of the west. The groom, who is a veteran of six years in the Coast Guard, is now employed by the Schulmerich Electronics. ==================== Emil Frank Hajny, 84, of Hastings, died Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. Emil was born March 29, 1917 in Clay County, near Fairfield, Nebraska to Frank W. & Mary B. (Mazour) Hajny. Emil graduated Fairfield High School in 1936. On January 11, 1940, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served over seas duty for four years as radio man installing communication bases and radar. He returned to the states as Chief Radio Technician as an instructor for two years at the United States Coast Guard School in Groton, Connecticut. He was discharged on January 10, 1946. He worked as a radio station engineer for KHAS and KRVN, for Shulmerich Carillon Bell Company installing bell systems throughout the United States, as an electronics field and installation engineer for KHOL, KHAS, KOLN-KGIN, retiring in 1979 from television stations channel-10 and channel-11, Lincoln-Grand Island, Nebraska. While working for Shulmerich Bells he installed systems in the Empire State Building, University of Nebraska, Lincoln and many churches. As an engineer for KOLN-KGIN, he helped install and maintain twenty translator systems and television towers. He married Velma Skalka on May 17, 1949. He was awarded the Captain of All State Post Commanders Team in Nebraska in 1960-1961. He was a life long area resident and a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings V.F.W. Post#1346, Eagles and a Charter Member of the South Central Czech's Society. Emil was preceded in death by his parents.
