Bio
LeRoy Robert Ratkovec was born on March 7, 1932 to Louis and Antonia (Pokorny) Ratkovec in Saunders County. He attended District 17 in Saunders County through 8th grade. On November 29, 1951 he married Sylvia Kobza at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard. Three children were born to this union. Leroy was a member of SS Mary & Joseph's church and Knights of Columbus. LeRoy had several jobs throughout his life. He worked at Hughes Bros. in Seward. They then moved to a farm east of Valparaiso. In 1957 they moved into town and Leroy worked for MW Anderson Construction Company in Lincoln before he started work at Nelson Oil Company and worked there 27 years. After retiring he worked for the Village of Valparaiso and retired fully in 2005. They enjoyed many polka dances with friends. He loved tinkering in his shop and dumpster diving. People came to him with woodworking projects as well. Leroy is survived by his children Carolee (Lowell) Quinlan of Valparaiso, Sharon (Larry) Poskochil of Lincoln, David (Char) Ratkovec of Bradenton, Florida. His brother Marvin Ratkovec of David City and 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
