Herald & Review 3/1930 Mrs. Sue Tyler Odor died in St. Marys hospital Monday morning. She was born in the Tyler home, near the place where the Antioch church now stands near Decatur. She would have been 88 years old on the 15th of this month. Mrs. Odor had been active in church work in Decatur for the last 72 years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Tyler. Her father was one of the pioneering ministers in this part of the state and she herself took an active part in the early life of Macon County. Two of her brothers, B. B. and J. Z. Tyler, now dead reached national prominence as leaders of the Disciples of Christ. She leaves only three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Merriweather, Decatur, Miss Alice Tyler,Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. Betty Cook, Denver,Colorado. Sue Tyler was born March 15,1842. She had lived in Decatur all of her life, last residing in 1120 W. Macon street. She was the widow of Hugh Odor, prominent Decatur lawyer for years. Mrs. Tyler joined the church early in life and was for many years the leader of church missionary work in Decatur. She was affectionately known as "mother" in the Central Church of Christ of which she wrote a history, now embodied in Nelsons History of Macon County. The church was Mrs. Odors entire interest and her greatest pleasure in life was attending church services. Although she suffered an accident several years ago and became slightly deaf she attended meetings of a womans class in the Sunday school until failing health made it impossible for her to go. Mrs. Odor was active in forming organizations within the church believing that societies do much toward the progress of women. She saw the organization of the first missionary society in her church in 1876. She also aided in the development of Christian Endeavor society for young people Obituary furnished by Janet Donner
