Bio
Joan Emma (Gruntorad) Lampe, long time resident of Havelock, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. She was 91 years old. Joan was born on May 22, 1931, to William A. and Emma (Tesina) Gruntorad near Ulysses, Nebraska. She attended Assumption Catholic School at Dwight, Nebraska through 8th grade. In March 1945, her family moved to Varina, Iowa where she attended St. Columbkille Catholic High School, graduating in May 1949, as class valedictorian. On November 21, 1949, she married Donald Lampe and they moved to a farm northwest of Havelock, Iowa in March 1950. Donald passed away on May 4, 2008, and Joan continued living on the farm until February 2023, when she moved to Arlington Place in Pocahontas. Joan was a full-time farm wife and mother to their six children: Susan, Ronald, Diane, Thomas, Michael and Jeffrey. Joan was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. She enjoyed attending her children's school events, playing golf and Bingo, and doing word search puzzles. She and Don also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and dancing. Joan is survived by her children: Sue (Dean) Truog of Estherville; Ron (Kris) Lampe of Havelock; Tom (Nancy) Lampe of Havelock; Mick (Kris) Lampe of Laurens; and Jeff (Jean) Lampe of Carroll. Grandchildren: Ryan (Teresa) Truog, Jeremy (Tatum) Truog, Alyson (Nick) Gruhlke, Cassidy Fuelling, Katie (Keane) Fillipi, Coy (Rachael) Lampe, Natalie (Chris) Ollinger, Emily (Mike) Williams, Colton (Emily) Lampe, Carly (Adam) Laubenthal, Camron (Molly) Knobbe, and Karsyn Lampe, as well as 20 great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Diane Lampe, brother and sister-in-law William and Leona Gruntorad, and sister and brother-in-law Hermie and Don Hamilton.
