Bio
William J. Gruntorad, 82 of Pocahontas, passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, IA. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas, with Fr. Merle Kollasch officiating. Burial is in St. Columbkille Cemetery near Varina, IA. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas. There will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a parish vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home on Monday. William J. Gruntorad was born October 17, 1923, in Ulysses, NE. He was the son of William A. and Emma (Pesina) Gruntorad. He graduated from Assumption High School in Dwight, NE. On January 8, 1945, Bill married Leona Marie Bartunek at Abie, NE. The couple settled near Varina, IA where they farmed. In 1985, they retired and moved to Pocahontas. Leona passed away in December of 2002. Bill was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Varina Fire Dept. He enjoyed farming, traveling, playing cards and especially his grand and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his daughters, Audrey (Ron) Milfs of Laguna Hills, CA; Linda (David) Kuker of Okoboji, IA; and Laurie (David) Sebben of Omaha, NE; sons Joseph (Deb) Gruntorad of Fonda, IA; and Bob Gruntorad of Fonda, IA; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joan (Don) Lampe of Havelock, IA. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona; daughter, Janet; and a sister, Hermania Hamilton.
