OBITUARY: Pocahontas Record - Democrat, Pocahontas, Iowa, Wednesday, 14 May 2008, pg. 4 Donald H. Lampe Havelock - Donald H. Lampe, age 83, of Havelock, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas with Fr. Merle Kollasch officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas with military rites by the Havelock AmVETS. Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas was in charge of the arrangements. Donald Henry Lampe was born November 24, 1924 in Palmer to Edward and Mary (Drealan) Lampe. Donald and his family moved to the Varina area where he grew up and attended a country school. He helped with the family farm until he entered the service on June 29, 1945. He was stationed in Germany, where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was discharged November 12, 1946. After returning from the service he resumed farming. He was united in marriage to Joan Gruntorad on November 21, 1949, in Varina. They moved to the Havelock area in 1950 and spent their entire married life on their farm. Donald was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church and the Havelock AmVETS. He enjoyed farming, spending time with his children, grand and great-grandchildren, golfing, playing cards and bingo. He is survived by his wife, Joan of Havelock; daughter, Susan (Dean) Truog of Estherville, sons, Ronald (Kris) Lampe of Havelock, Thomas (Nancy) Lampe of Havelock, Michael (Kris) Lampe of Laurens, and Jeffrey (Jean) Lampe of Carroll. Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Ryan (Teresa) Truog of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jeremy (Tatum) Truog of Estherville, Alyson Truog of Cedar Falls, Cassidy (Adam) Fuelling of Dunkerton, Katie (Keane) Fillipi of Emerson, Neb., Coy Lampe of Cedar Falls, Natalie (Chris) Ollinger of Pensacola, Fla, Emily Lampe of Ames, Colton Lampe of Laurens, Carly Lampe of Laurens, Camron Knobbe of Carroll, and Karsyn Lampe of Carroll, great-grandchildren, Tanner and Eli Truog, Olivia and Owen Truog and Noah Fuelling; sisters, Mary Chiles of Humboldt and Darlene (Greg) Origer of Humbolt; sister-in-law, Phyllis Lampe of Spirit Lake, brother-in-law, Fred Alcorn of Fort Dodge, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Diane Lampe, brother, Norbert Lampe, sister, Betty Alcorn, mother and father-in-law, William and Emma Gruntorad, brother-in-law, Howard Chiles; brother and sister-in-law, William and Leona Gruntorad; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Hermie Hamilton; and a nephew, Dan Chiles.
