Bio

OBITUARY Thomas Stone was born 1851 at Moreland, Summersetshire, England, on May 17. It was thirty-eight years ago he came with his family to America with the exception of his wife who died in Wales. There came with him, one son, James, and three daughters, Mary, Elizabeth and Ellen. Two of these have passed beyond. Two, Mary and James, yet remain to mourn his loss. On his arrival in America they made their home in Illinois at Lake Forest, later going to Pennsylvania. About 37 years ago he came to Valley county, Nebraska, and settled on a homestead seven miles east and one south of Comstock. During the last year he has been living with his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Fisher, where he died at the age of 70 on July 6th at two o'clock and was buried at the cemetery east of town on Friday the 8th. The funeral was conducted at the Woodman Hall, the undertaker from Arcadia in charge. Rev. J.W. Foster gave the address. Mr. Stone was one of the pioneers of this part and spent much time in the early days digging wells where water was needed. The frequent passing of our pioneers brings back to us the stories of early days full of adventure and hardship. The day is near when pioneers and pioneer life will be something so far in the past that our rising generations will have little idea of what it means to settle a new country.--Comstock News.
