Emil Craig Milacek Jr., age 89, a resident of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away in his home on Saturday, February 25, 2023. Born in Lynch, NE on December 7, 1933, Emil was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving for 21 years and retiring as a Lieutenant in 1972. Emil then began his second career as a college accounting professor, teaching at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN and Winona State University in Winona, MN and earning his PhD from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. After his second retirement, Emil volunteered with his local American Legion, acting as district treasurer and enjoyed spending time playing cards of all kinds, but especially cribbage, bridge, pinochle and poker. Emil was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and his wife, Janet Thompson. Emil is survived by his son, Craig Milacek (Connie), daughter, Paula Amschler (Mitch), step-daughter, Beth Navara (Tom), step-son, Matt Larson (Jessica), eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Arlene and dozens of nieces and nephews. A military service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
