Later got a job at the Sneed Ranch in Dumas where he became ranch manager. He, his wife, and Mrs. Sneed were hosts for "Dogie Days," a celebration for those living and working the ranch. This expanded and became a town celebration. He was the youngest man to be elected a county commissioner and served in that position the longest of any other person. He served in WWI.
