Lew Haile was the son of James Thomas Haile and Mary Beaver Hodges. He married Polly Priscilla Record. His first job was shocking feed for the Matador "North" Ranch. Later got a job at the Sneed Ranch in Dumas where he became ranch manager. He, his wife, and Mrs. Sneed were hosts for "Dogie Days," a celebration for those living and working the ranch. This expanded and became a town celebration. He was the youngest man to be elected a county commissioner and served in that position the longest of any other person. He served in WWI. When an old hotel in Dumas, TX, became the Sneed Museum, a Lew Haile addition was included.
