Bio

Statuel departed this life on Sunday, July 22, 1984. He was born Saturday, December 31, 1910 to Alford Wallace Harris and Lurley Lee Meador. He married Nannie Blanche Anderson on December 11, 1937. He moved his family from Rains County, TX to Dallas in 1942 and went to work for the Dallas Transit Company driving a streetcar and later driving a bus until his retirement. Statch as he was known, was a movie buff and would often take his kids to the movies on the weekend when they had double features (Majestic and Palace theater). He enjoyed many of the good cartoons shown at the movies and on early TV, he would laugh as much as the kids. He would take the kids to the zoo and to baseball games (Dallas Eagles). He loved to fish and taught his grand-kids to fish. The grandsons have some great stories about going fishing with their Pa. His sons-in-law had some pretty unique fishing stories to tell also. He had a great sense of humor and told some funny stories, some true some not. He played card games with the grand-kids and one they enjoyed was 'cards in the hat' which they never won. He had a very generous heart and was always willing to help others. There were many relatives and friends that stayed at our home over the years while looking for work or getting on their feet financially. When he retired he moved to Wills Point and would always plant a big garden, growing enough for the family and plenty to give to neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Wallace), three infant daughters and a grandson (Michael). He is survived by his wife, daughters; Frances Jones (Gary), Tucson, AZ, Anna Campbell , Grand Prairie, TX, Dorothy Dirnberger (David), Benton, MO, Donna Howard, Grand Prairie, TX, Mary Higdon (Marc), Dallas, TX, and Martha Meaden, Dallas, TX; son; Joe Harris (Alice), Severna Park, MD.
