The Belleville Telescope, August 16, 1962 Charley Shimek, son of Frank and Rosalie (Houdek) Shimek was born on a farm near Narka, Kan., on April 14, 1877, and departed this life at the Republic County hospital on July 28, 1962 at the age of 85 years, three months and 14 days. He received his common school education in the rural schools near Cuba and Narka. In the month of March of 1901 he was united in marriage to Frances Shulda of Cuba, Kan., and to this union nine children were born, seven of them dying in infancy. The family made their home on a farm near Narka, and in 1907 they moved to Oklahoma, where he farmed with the John Hussmanns, spending about six years there. In 1913 they decided to move back to Kansas making the trip in a covered wagon taking 19 days. They located again near Narka, where he was engaged in farming when his wife took ill and passed away on March 5, 1937, continuing for a couple of years, he spent his later years in Cuba and Belleville. As a husband and father he went through many hardships in the loss of seven infant children and the passing of his wife. He loved his children and grandchildren, and was very patient in his suffering, and appreciative of what was done for him, spending the last three months of his life in the home of his daughter, Ila, the Ben Blazek's of Belleville. Those preceding him in death were his parents, seven infant children, his wife Frances, three sisters Annie, Agnes and Mrs. Rosalie Palacek, one brother Jerry, and one great-grandson Kirk Blazek. He leaves to mourn his passing two daughters, Victoria Blazek and husband Frank of Cuba, Kan., and Mrs. Ila Blazek and husband Ben of Belleville, Kan., four grandchildren, Gerald Blazek and wife Irene, Harold and Loren Blazek, Beverly Reynolds and husband Ray, three great-grandchildren, one brother Ed Shimek of Belleville, many other relatives and friends.
