PINE BLUFF COMMERCIAL TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1997 Pine Bluff, Jefferson Co., Arkansas WILLIAM McGRIFF STAR CITY - William Oscar McGriff, 95, of Star City, died October 26, 1997, at Star City Nursing Center. He was born June 15, 1902, in Lincoln County, a son of the late Benjamin Meredith and Evalina Norton McGriff. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church at Palmyra (Lincoln County), where he was a teacher for about 40 years. He was president of the Lincoln County Singing Convention for more than 20 years and was a charter member of the Lincoln County Fair Board. He was a retired cattleman and timber farmer who was active in land aquisitions and trading for more than a half-century. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Fish McGriff, whom he married on December 13, 1925; and an infant daughter, who died in 1928. Survivors include a son, William Wayne McGriff of Star City; a daughter, Lena Aileen Martin of Greenville, Texas; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Griffin Funeral Service of Star City with Lynn McBryde officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery at Star City.
