- Enjoyed Reading and Scrapbooking - Hard-Worker as a Farmer's Wife, she hand-shelled corn daily for corn mash or cornbread, etc; killed a chicken a day for meals especially in the summertime; carried buckets of water daily to all the trees for their shelter belt and did many other chores. When they went to church on Sunday's she would sell her eggs, which allowed her to buy flour one week and sugar the next week. She was a strong woman to deal with a tough life during those depression year in the 30's and 40's. - On their Fuchs farm 9 1/2 miles northwest of Battle Creek, Nebraska she would gather bags-full of black walnuts to give to family and friends. - In addition, in her later years after her husband, Mike, passed she assisted her family members on her Bruckner Homestead near Humphrey, Nebraska. - Tell stories to the grandchildren that during the depression she would sell her eggs weekly for $1, which she rotated that money weekly to buy either sugar or flour to cook for her family. She raised a lot of chickens during her lifetime - not only selling eggs, but providing them as meals to her family. To her it was a labor of love. She was diligent in doing her chicken chores and had no problem raising or butchering a chicken or two to feed her family. - One of her favorite expressions was "It was Raining Cats and Dogs". - She enjoyed the Johnny Carson TV show after the ten o'clock news, which she was disappointed when his show went from (1 and 1/2 hours) to one Hour per week night. 1912 Helen E Bruckner in the Nebraska Birth Records Gender ~ Female Birth Date ~ 21 Dec 1912 Birth Place ~ Platte County, Nebraska Father ~ Joseph W Bruckner Certificate Number ~ 26690 1931 Elizabeth Bruckner in the Nebraska Marriage Records to Mike Fuchs Marriage Date ~ 13 January 1931 Marriage Place ~ Humphrey, Nebraska 1931 The Humphrey Democrat; Humphrey, Nebraska; Friday, January 16, 1931, page 1 Bruckner - Fuchs Wedding Tuesday Miss Elizabeth Bruckner and Mr. Mike Fuchs are United in Marriage On Honeymoon Trip to Eastern Points - Will Make Home Near Pierce, Nebraska A pretty, yet simple, wedding was solemnized at St. Francis Catholic church on Tuesday morning at nine o'clock when Miss Elizabeth Helen Bruckner became the bride of Mr. Mike A. Fuchs, of Pierce, Nebraska. Rev. Fr. Ben officiated at the ceremony and also read the nuptial mass which followed. The processional and recessional marches were played by Ven, Sr. M. Camilla. The bride was very attractive in her princess gown of white satin and point lace. Her veil of silk tulle fell full length and was held in place by a coronet of rhinestones and orange blossoms. Her costume was completed with white hose and pumps. Her shower bouquet was of pink roses and lilies-of-the-valley interspersed with fern leaves and caught with a long white satin streamer. Her bridesmaid was her sister, Miss Clara Bruckner, she being attired in a gown of orange satin and lace of ankle length. A band of brilliants adorned her hair and she carried an arm bouquet of peach colored roses and sweet peas. The groom was attended by the bride's cousin, Mr. Clarence Loeffler ( # 106730914 )of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. Both gentlemen were attired in dress suits of conventional black. Following the ceremony the bridal party and their invited guests, they being only immediate members of the two families, went to the home of the bride's parents, where an informal reception was held in honor of the young couple and where all enjoyed a sumptuous dinner which had been prepared for them. For the occasion the home had been prettily decorated with streamers of orange and white and white wedding bells. The bride's table was centered with a large white wedding cake. The day and evening was spent in a general social way in celebration of the happy event by the guests. The bride and groom left during the afternoon on a honeymoon trip that will take them to Chicago where they will visit with relatives of the bride.
