"Martha Lois Venable, first grade teacher at Mark Twain School here, died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday in a Duncan hospital after an illness of 83 days. She had taught the past five years at Mark Twain and three years before that at Woodrow Wilson School. She began teaching in 1924 at Mountain View, Tex. Mrs. Venable attended schools at Evant, Tex., where she was born, and was a graduate of Central State College at Edmond. She was married to Forrest Venable in 1931 at Goldthwaite, Tex., and the couple farmed there until 1944 when they moved to the Comanche vicinity. She had taught schools at Addington, Moran, Tucker, Central High, and Diamond, Okla. A member of the Baptist church since she was in her teens, she had been a member of Meridian Baptist Church the past 12 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Comanche and also a member of the Oklahoma Education Association. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Meridian Baptist Church with the Rev. Al Hand, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Wayne Pearson, pastor of Purcell Baptist Church, assisting. Burial will be in Comanche Cemetery under direction of Phillips-Elsey Funeral Home of Comanche. Survivors are the husband, three sons, T. J. Venable, Mesquite, Tex., Bobby Doyle Venable, Montezuma Creek, Utah, and Grady Piper Venable, a student at Montana State College, Bozeman, Mont. Also a daughter, Mary Lou McCarley, Garland, Tex.; four brothers, D. L. Piper, Dallas; James V., Houston; Luther, Brownwood, Tex., and William L., Beaumont, Tex. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. T. E. Garretson, Midwest City, and six grandchildren. Bearers will be Gaylon Wood, Travis Goff, Ray Edmondson, D. T. Gleghorn, Bill Florez, and Harvey Ross. Honorary bearers will be Bill Monsey, Clifford Barnes, Frank Irwin, Loss Odom, Lum Davis, and Ott Seida."
