Bio

Lawrence Gregory Sr.  passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon December 19, 2020 at his home with family. During his last days he was able to have his wife Bessie and daughters Jody and Melinda by his side. Lawrence was an incredible man who loved all his family both immediate, extended and he adored all children. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, he was a Denton County Deputy Sheriff and Justice of the Peace for many years. As a law enforcement officer, he was a skilled detective and was especially tough on criminals with crimes against children. He shared his love of golf and fishing with his son and grandson. He never missed an event involving his kids of grandkids, whether it be sports, church, or school events he was always there. He and Bessie would drive many hours in a day to attend a baseball game or his granddaughters team penning events. They would even make cross country trips to Montana and Georgia to visit his children and grandchildren. He was married to his wife Bessie for 66 years and he loved and protected her more than anyone could imagine. He would sacrifice himself to take care of his family regardless of what it meant for him. He was preceded in death by his son Lawrence Gregory Jr.(Bubba), his parents Hershel and Willie, his brothers Henry and Norman, sisters Dolsie, Verna, Ruby, Rita, and Jimmie. He is survived by his wife Bessie Marie Gregory of Sanger, daughters Jody McCollum (Chris) of Double Oak, Melinda Pablo(late Joseph H.) of Sanger, brother James Gregory of Frisco, sisters Janice Cameron of Waco, and Norma Jean Foster of Phoneix,Az, grand children Michael McCollum(Melony), Jennifer Lee(Matt),Jordan Gregory, and his great grandchildren Madison and Cason McCollum, Remi and Wyatt Lee and  he was close to Melinda's granddaughter Jenna and her son Jamie Hugh who would visit from Montana. Lawrence was a very charismatic man who never met a stranger. Dining out with his family lasted hours because he would always find someone he knew and would always take time to visit. If you knew him, it's most likely you have a story that will make you smile. Lawrence will be laid to rest Wednesday December 23, 2020 at Belew Cemetery in Aubrey, Tx The service will be a private family service and the family has asked that in place of flowers that you make a donation to the Child Advocacy Center of Denton County.
