Bio

Kearney Daily Hub (Kearney, Nebr.), April 13, 1949, p. 1, col. 5 Joseph A. Hanousek, Jr., Killed Joseph A. Hanousek, jr., 22, of Poole, was killed about 10:30 o'clock Tuesday night when his car went out of control and turned over 10 miles north of the Buda school. Police Chief R. T. Nelson, who investigated with Patrolman Vernon D. Allen, said the car went off the road into an embankment. Mr. Hanousek apparently fell out when the door came open and was pinned under the car. He was dead when officers arrived. Mr. Hanousek had been batching with his brother, Fred, 21. Their father moved only a week ago to a farm two miles south of Ravenna. Funeral rites will be at the Kearney Presbyterian church chapel at 9:30 a.m. Friday with burial in the St. Wenislas cemetery, Ravenna. The Rev. Wesley Smedes will officiate. Harry Crawford took charge of the body. Surviving in addition to the father and brother, Fred, are another brother, Rudy, of the home, and two sisters, Mary, at home, and Mrs. Gerald Valentine of Ravenna. '''''''''''''' The Ravenna News (Ravenna, Nebr.), April 14, 1949, p. 1, col. 4 Hanousek Is Found Dead in Wrecked Auto Poole Youth Was Returning Home from Work When Car Went in the Ditch Joe Hanousek, Jr., 22-year-old Poole youth, was found dead about 10 o'clock Tuesday under the wreckage of his car which had gone off the road into the ditch near his home when he was returning home from work. Hanousek had been working with a neighbor, Matt Schuller, at the Davidson place, picking corn. They had finished their day's work late, eaten supper, and he had started home at 7:30 in the evening. But he never arrived home. When he did not show up late that night, his brother became frightened and set out in a search. The wrecked car was found by the roadside, and though the exact details of the accident will never be known, it is believed he was killed instantly as the vehicle went into the ditch and capsized. The Hanousek family had lived for several years at the place south of Poole, but were in the process of moving. The father, Joe, Sr., has been living on the Jim Dusek place south of Ravenna since March doing the farming and getting the place fixed up. He had been living with a younger brother Fred, and the family had intended on farming both places this season. Besides his father, young Hanousek is survived by his brothers and sisters at home, and by a married sister, Mrs. Gerald Valentine of Ravenna. Funeral services were held Friday morning with burial at the church south of Ravenna.
