KEARNEY — Marie M. “Mary” Pabian, 86, of Kearney died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at CHI Health Good Samaritan. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Stan Murdoch officiating. Entombment will be at Kearney Cemetery. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. Mary was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016. She was born May 19, 1929, to Joseph and Martha (Hajek) Hanousek in Poole. She grew up in and attended country school in Poole. Her first job was at Urbanek’s Cleaners in Ravenna. She moved to Grand Island where she met and married Vern Pabian of Ravenna. They made their home in Ravenna and were blessed with eight children. She worked at several businesses throughout her life, most of which were in the food service industry. She eventually became the owner of Midway Café in Ravenna for several years. After that, she remained in Ravenna for a few more years before she moved to Kearney to be near her children. She was a member of Open Bible Church and later the Congregational Church in Ravenna. She joined First Baptist Church after she moved to Kearney. Aside from church and Bible study, her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting and reading and was a wonderful cook. She also enjoyed cooking the foods of her Czech heritage, such as kolaches and sauerkraut dishes. She had a smile for everyone and always put others’ needs before her own. Survivors include her daughters, Lenora “Norie” Bartley of Kearney, Beverly Whitford and husband Daniel of Cheyenne, Wyo., Joanne Pabian of Kearney, Donna Mendyk and husband Nick of Ashton, Gretchen Pabian of Holdrege and Suzanne Pabian of Kearney; sons, Loren Pabian and wife Lori, and Charles Pabian, all of Kearney; grandchildren, Dustin Bartley of Lincoln, Kirby Mendyk of Kearney and Lisa Mendyk of Ashton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister and an infant grandson, Jamie Bartley.
