Bio

"Last Saturday mornng Mrs. Henry G. Wegener, residing seven miles northwest of this city quietly passed away after only a few days illness with pneumonia. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the St. Bernard Catholic church and interment made in the cemetry (sic) near the church. Elizabeth Sand was born at Ft. Madison, Iowa, on November 19, 1858. She resided there until 1879 when she came with her parents to Nebraska and settled on a farm in the St. Bernard neighborhood. On September 14, 1881, she was united in marriage to Henry G. Wegener and to this union were born nine children, seven boys and two girls; they are John of this city, Ben of Cornlea, Mrs. Jos. Bruckner, while Jos. Tony, Henry, George and Lena are still at home. Herman the oldest son died two years ago. Mrs. Wegener was a Christian woman in the truest sense of the word. Her sweet face made sunshine in a shady place..." ("The Humphrey Democrat", 20 Feb 1914, p. 1) Elisabeth was the daughter of John B. Sand and Mary A.
