Sapulpa Daily Herald newspaper, page 1, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on July 20, 1982: A Sapulpa man died late Friday [July 18, 1982] when the car he was driving ran out of control about one mile north of Kiefer, [Oklahoma] on Highway 75-A, Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said Saturday. Ralph Jack Wilborn, 52, was pronounced dead on arrival at Bartlett Memorial Medical Center here [Sapulpa, Oklahoma] following the 10:30 pm accident. Authorities said Wilborn lost control of his northbound car, ran off the roadway and overturned, pinning him in the wreckage for some time. Funeral services are pending with Owen Funeral Home here. Born in Sapulpa on Sept. 29, 1927, Wilborn lived in the area all his life except for stints in the Army during World War II and Korea. At the time of his death, he was employed as a machinist with the Tulsa Forge Co. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two sons: Richard Dale of the home, [and] Charles Ralph, Haywood, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Neal, Fort Dix, N. J.; two step-sons: Roy Raney, Derby, Kan., and Dale Sandbelk, Las Vegas, Nev.; his mother, Lou Ella Wilborn, Mounds, [Oklahoma]; five brothers: Roy, Merced, Calif., Clyde, Albuquerque, N. M., Harrison J., Mounds, [Oklahoma], Frank, Broken Arrow, [Oklahoma], George, Muldrow, [Oklahoma]; two sisters, Edna Mae Creason, Mounds, and Ethel Fay Blair, Tulsa, [Oklahoma]; and nine grandchildren. He was known to many by his CB handle as "Pop-A-Top". Born Sept. 29, 1927 in Sapulpa, he had lived in this area all his life. He was employed by the Tulsa Forge Co. as a machine operator. An Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the VFW. Surviving are his wife, Mildred; two sons: Richard Dale of the home, [and] Charles Ralph, Haywood, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Neal, Ft. Dix, N. J.; a step-son, Roy Raney of Derby, Kan.; a step-daughter, Gail Sandbek of Las Vegas, Nev.; his mother, Lou Ella Wilborn, Mounds, [Oklahoma]; nine grandchildren; five brothers: Roy Wilborn, Merced, Calif., Clyde Wilborn, Albuquerque, N. Services will be held in Green Hill [Funeral Home] Chapel with the Rev. Troy W. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Green Hill [Memorial Gardens] Cemetery under direction of Owen Funeral Home. Military rites will be held at the gravesite.
