Calvin Was Born In Grandisland Nebraska S/O Norton D.Mann & Nina P.Moriarity Mann. Mann Fatally Hurt in Bus-Car Crash War Veteran Dies in San Francisco; Brother Badly Injured Calvin L. Mann, 22, son of Norton Mann, 2800 West Fifth, and a veteran of World War II, was fatally injured Saturday when a car in which he and his brother, William, were riding, collided with a Greyhound buss in San Francisco. William was taken to a naval hospital following the accident in which he received a fractured jaw and possibly other injuries. No further details concerning the accident are available but William's condition was reported as serious, not critical. Brother Killed in War Two of seven Mann boys who (turn to page 10) served their country in the war are now dead, and a third was wounded in action. Pvt. Chester N. Mann, who was taken prisoner by the Japanese on Corregidor early in the war, was killed when a Japanese transport ship on which he was being transported from the Philippines to Japan was sunk by a submarine Oct. 24, 1944. Sgt. Roy Mann was wounded Apr. 14, 1945 in Germany. The other brothers in service were William, who served in the Pacific; Harry, who was with a military police unit; Lewis and Kenneth. Calvin Mann was born April 30, 1923. He attended school here and in October, 1941, he enlisted in the navy. During the war he was a gunner on the aircraft carrier Saratoga and was with the ship until October of last year when he was discharged. HE was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post of Grand Island. Besides his father, he is survived by eight brothers, Francis, Spickard, Mo.; Cecil and Roy, Grand Island; Harry, Denver,Colo.; William, San Francisco, Cal.; Lewis and John, Albion, Ore.; and Seaman Kenneth who is still in the navy, and four sisters, Mrs. Sam Woodard, Lincoln; Mrs. John Budd, Albion, Ore.; Mrs. Edith Christensen, and Miss Margaret Mann, Grand Island. His mother, Mrs. Nina Moriarity Mann, preceded him in death. Arrangements for the funeral are incomplete pending word from other members of the family. the Livingston-Sondermann funeral home is in charge of arrangements but the body will be returned to Grand Island for burial.
