MERKORD, Alfred L. of Rt.3, Taylor. Age 68. Died 7/31/1984 (Tuesday) at his residence. Rosary recited Wednesday at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. Services held (Thursday) at St.Mary's Catholic Church, Taylor. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger. Rev. Howard Goertz officiated. He was BORN 10/19/1915 and owner and operator of Merkord Cafe on Hwy. 95 just north of Taylor. Member of above church. SURVIVORS: Wife, Mrs. Mary Merkord of Taylor; 2 daughters, Mrs. Norma Henson of New Braunfels and Mrs. Evelyn Vansa of Temple; 2 sons, Alfred Merkord, Jr. of Smithville and Johnny Merkord of Round Rock; 5 sisters, Mrs. Clara Mikulencak and Mrs. Martha Kokes of Taylor, Mrs. Evelyn Welhelm of Austin, Mrs. Lena Finn of Thorndale, and Mrs. Marylee Chalupa of Sulphur Springs, TX.; 2 brothers, Eddie Merkord of Granger and Robert Merkord of LaPorte; 7 grandchildren.
