Steve Dedek, Jr., the son of Steve and Birdie Doris (Sanders) Dedek, was born on April 29, 1946 at Thackerville, OK. He passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in Select Specialty Hospital in Carrollton, TX. Born and raised in Thackerville, Steve graduated with the Thackerville Class of 1964. To say Steve was outgoing is belittling his personality. His magnetic energy made every person he met his closest friend. Working for many years in automotive sales brought many friends into his life. He owned and operated S&L Auto Sales in Gainesville, TX for over 23 years. He had the gift of storytelling and tricks that many people could share. The twinkle in his eye and the sideways smirk would always give him away sometimes, but the roaring laughter and clapping hands that came after the joke, brought joy to everyone within ear shot. He was the giant we all knew and loved and felt safe anytime he was near. His hugs were so meaningful you knew nothing could ever penetrate his guard he had around you. Steve's love for the outdoors and people kept him out and about every day and through the night. His daredevil personality took him from sinking ATV's and pontoon boats and going down very steep hills on four wheelers. We never knew how he could ever stay insured. You could find him at every high school basketball game that he could find. He did not even need to know the players. Just to enjoy watching the game was good enough for him. He was an avid fan of the OU Sooners football team. Steve loved to go to the casino and just gossip with the guys, but again you never knew if it was the truth or another trick he was playing on you. His love for his grandchildren was unconditional. Teaching them the ways of the farm and how to buy a car were only a few things he enjoyed. When his voice was lost, the personality was still there. Those eyebrows would move, and his eyes would tell you every word he needed to say. The man, the friend, the legend that he was will always remain. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Haney Dedek, Kenzie Dedek, Mike Dedek, and Clent Dedek; and two sisters, Gladys Bond and Helen Long. Survivors include his loving wife, Debra of the home; daughter, Stacie Llano of Gainesville; son, Steven Kemp of Denton, TX; five grandchildren, Chance Llano and Taylor Llano of Gainesville, Chloe Kemp of Oklahoma City, OK, and Josey and Jacey Kemp of Denton; one brother, David Dedek of Marietta, OK; three sisters, Linda Morgan of Carrollton, Barbara Gregg of Colorado Springs, CO, and Burnedia Namminga and husband Ivan of Dallas, TX; brother-in-law, Leroy McLaughlin of Wynnewood; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary & Sherry McLaughlin of Valley View, TX; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Brenda and Bobby Dean of Marietta; sisters-in-law, Cyndy Green of Burneyville, OK, Sue Dedek of Thackerville, and Joyce Dedek of Edmond, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
