Bio

Michael Frank Dedek, the son of Steve and Birdie Doris Sanders Dedek, was born November 15, 1943 at Thackerville, OK. He passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, OK, at the age of 71. Born and raised at Thackerville, Michael graduated with the Thackerville class of 1961. He played on a basketball team that advanced to the State Play-Offs. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. He and the former Marlena Sue Spurgeon were married in Dallas on March 26, 1973, and the couple made their home in Dallas until 2012 when they moved to Thackerville. While living in Dallas, Mr. Dedek owned and operated a backhoe and construction company. Michael enjoyed his horses and loved his cat "Louie." He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Haney Dedek and Kinzie Dedek; and two sisters, Gladys Bond and Helen Long. Survivors include his wife, Sue of the home; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Clent and Joyce Dedek of Edmond, OK, and Steve and Debra Dedek and David Dedek of Marietta; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Burnedia and Ivan Namminga of Dallas, Linda Morgan of Carrollton, TX, and Barbara and Forrest Gregg of Colorado Springs, CO, and by numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as casket bearers will be Mathew Reed, Michael Wayne Bond, David Dedek, Jr., D.J. Dedek, Chance Llano, Jace Dickson, and Garvin Kirk. Honorary bearers are Gary Reed, Solomon Dedek, and the members of the 1961 Thackerville State Basketball Team.
