Bio

August “Gus” Roger Jensen, age 87, of York, NE, died Monday, December 7, 2020 in York. He was born June 12, 1933 in Beaver Crossing, NE to August and Mary (DeCamp) Jensen. On September 18, 1955, Gus was united in marriage to Janet McBride in York, NE. Gus served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Gus worked for LT&T for 39 years, and was a long-time member of the 1st Evangelical Lutheran Church in York. ​He was active in the Boy Scouts, where he won the Silver Beaver Award. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, watching purple martins, raising pheasants, quail, and partridge. He also enjoyed woodworking, helping others, volunteering with the York Senior Center, where he served as President. He also served one term on the York City Council, was a member of the York American Legion Bolton Post and VFW, Masonic Lodge. Gus also served as volunteer fire fighter for the York Fire Department. He loved his family and helping them. He will be missed by all. Gus is survived by his wife Janet; sons Larry (Sherry) Jensen, Ron (Barbara) Jensen, Steve (Vicki) Jensen, Jerry (Sharon) Jensen; daughter, JoAnn (Matt) Staehr. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brothers Joey Jensen, Don (Susan) Jensen, Gary (Connie) Jensen; sisters Marge Lundy, Mary Ann (Lloyd Wright), Carol (Ron) Anderson, Deanna (David) Reetz, and Edith Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother’s Bob, Allen, Gale and Jim; sister’s Betty Lewis, Marilyn Lortz, and Lorraine Darling. Private family memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the 1st Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, with the Rev. Megan Clausen officiating. No viewing or visitation as it was Gus’s wish to be cremated. Inurnment with military honors to follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in York.
