Bio

The original monument was a plain, upright slab bearing only his name and the Bible verse "Mark the perfect man and behold the upright for the end of that man is peace." The new monument states his place of birth as Heard County, but family records indicate that he was born in Oglethorpe, Georgia. He was buried a few hundred yards from his home in a plot which he had donated to the public for a burying ground.
