Father: John E.P. Cowart First Husband: Mathew A. Leverett, m. December 13, 1853 Notes: Birthplace: L.R. always insisted that despite census records stating her birthplace as Alabama, she was actually born near Minden, Louisana, where her father held a pastorate in the Methodist Church. All private family records and narratives give her birthplace as Louisana. Name: L.R. was christened Louisa Regina Maria Roach Cowart. Some early records indicate that her name was Lillian Regina, but this is incorrect. She always signed her name "L.R.", and this is how she was known to family and friends.
