The Shreveport (La) Times (Jan. 30, 2009) Robert Burns SPRINGHILL, LA - Robert Burns, 81 of Springhill, Louisiana passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at his home in Springhill. He was born March 9, 1927 in Shongaloo, Louisiana to the late Isaac Lee and Donnie Bell (Boucher) Burns. He was a veteran in the United States Army during World War II serving as a Master Sergeant stationed in Japan. Robert was a member of Trinity Worship Center and a Master Mason. He was employed for forty four years with International Paper Company, loved the outdoors, animals, and was a person who had a lot of pride. He always felt it was an honor and privilege to carry his family name. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Bessie Bailey, Jessie Mae Atkins, Margaret Cooley, Willie Dee McEachern, brothers, A.J., LeRoy, Pleasant, and Holland Burns. He is survived by his wife of sixty three years, Peggy Stewart Burns of Springhill; son Robert Carlton Burns, Jr. of Springhill; brother, Joe Dae Burns and his wife Helen of Jonesboro, Louisiana; grandson, Jonathon Robert Burns and his wife Kimberly of Shongaloo; granddaughter, Michelle Burns Martin of Shongaloo; and seven great grandchildren, Rex Martin, Austin Powell, Joshua Hamiter, Wyatt Richardson, Riley Burns, Haley Martin, and Sydni Richardson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Springhill with Rev. Tommy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Springhill, Louisiana. Family visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
