Bio

Elmer D. Stelk, 96, of Grand Island died Friday, July 15, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society Village. Elmer was born on April 24, 1926, at Grand Island to Detlef and Silda (Wagner) Stelk. He attended Seedling Mile School and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. After graduation he helped on the family farm. On March 12, 1951, he entered the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1952..On September 11, 1952, Elmer was united in marriage to Nola Jakob at Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island and Elmer farmed and then later worked for Hall County Roads Dept and New Holland. He was custodian at First Presbyterian Church for 20 plus years. Elmer was a member of Platt-Duetsche, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, and playing cards. He also loved drawing and was known for drawing cartoon characters. Survivors include one daughter and one son, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nola; sisters: Dorothy Tooman, Evelyn Starkey, and twin sister, Elaine Collier. When Elmer D Stelk was born in 1927, in Nebraska, United States, his father, Detlef Otto Stelk, was 34 and his mother, Silda Matilda Wagner, was 32. He had at least 1 daughter with Nola L Jakob. He lived in Washington Township, Hall, Nebraska, United States for about 10 years and Grand Island, Buffalo, Nebraska, United States in 2001.
